PS5 shows no picture? How to tell if the HDMI port is broken

Your PS5 turns on, but the TV says "no signal"? Check these things first – and see how we replace the HDMI port with microsoldering.

Does your PlayStation 5 turn on, but the TV says "no signal"? Then the HDMI port is one of the most common causes. The port sits directly on the logic board, and a hard pull on the cable or a console that falls over can bend or break the small pins inside.

Signs of a faulty HDMI port

  • The TV shows no picture although the console turns on (the light is white or blinking).
  • The picture flickers, drops out or only comes when you hold the cable at a certain angle.
  • The HDMI plug is loose or will not go all the way in.
  • You can see bent pins inside the port.

Check this first – it is free

Before you hand in the console, try:

  • Another HDMI cable (preferably the original one).
  • Another HDMI input on the TV – or another TV.
  • Turn the console fully off and unplug the power for a minute.

If it still does not work, it is probably the port or something on the logic board.

What we do

A new HDMI port requires microsoldering: the old port is desoldered from the logic board and a new one is soldered on. Afterwards we test picture and sound. If there is other damage on the logic board, we contact you with a price before we continue.

Is the console loud as well?

Dust and dried-out thermal paste make the fan loud and the console hot. While it is open anyway, it can be a good idea to have it cleaned. Read about cleaning and new thermal paste.

How long does it take?

Console repairs typically take from the same day to 1–3 days, depending on the fault and whether the part is in stock. You can also send the console by post from anywhere in Denmark – read about mail-in.

REPAIRO is an independent repair shop and is not authorised by Sony.
