5 signs your iPhone needs a new battery

Does the battery drain fast, does the phone turn off by itself, or has it become slow? Here are the five signs – and what a battery replacement costs.

An iPhone battery wears out. After a couple of years of daily charging it holds less charge, and the phone starts behaving differently. Here are the five signs we see most often in the workshop – and what you can do.

1. The battery drains fast

The phone used to last a whole day, but now it needs charging by mid-afternoon. This is the most common sign of a worn battery.

2. The phone shuts down by itself

If your iPhone suddenly turns off at 20–30 %, especially in the cold, the battery can no longer deliver enough power when the phone works hard.

3. Low battery health or the "Service" message

Go to Settings › Battery › Battery Health & Charging. A low maximum capacity or the word "Service" is a clear sign. Many people start to notice it when capacity drops below about 80 %.

4. The phone is slow

With a worn battery, iPhone may reduce performance so it does not shut down. Apps open more slowly and the phone feels sluggish.

5. The battery bulges or gets very hot

If the screen lifts on one side, or the phone gets very hot while charging, stop using it and have it checked. A swollen battery must be replaced.

What does a new battery cost?

It depends on the model and the quality you choose – on iPhone usually High Quality, OEM – same capacity as original or Original. See the price for your model:

A battery replacement typically takes 30–90 minutes, and batteries have a 6-month warranty under our warranty table.

REPAIRO is an independent repair shop and is not authorised by Apple. After a battery replacement, iPhone may show a message about an unknown part – this comes from Apple's software. Water resistance cannot be guaranteed after a repair.
